Fiji Rugby Sevens

November 29, 2018

For our Nanuya family and the people living in surrounding villages, support for the rugby code and especially the Rugby Sevens is HUGE! The Fijian way of life revolves around a passionate embrace of the game, its players and the teamship and camaraderie it brings to players and supporters alike.

For several years, Nanuya Island Resort has been a proud sponsor of the Nacula Sevens and 2018 was no different.  Nanuya again was a major sponsor of the annual Nacula Sevens and Netball Tournaments, held at Nacula Village on November 23rd & 24th.  This sponsorship allows teams and individual players to be recognised and rewarded for their efforts – the pressure is enormous and the standard very high.

A particular highlight of this year’s event was the presentation, by owner Ivan Parker, of the Player of the Tournament Award to rising star, Napolioni Ratu Nasalo – it was a privilege to witness the emergence of arguably one of Fiji’s next generation star players.

Nanuya Island Resort also hosted a number of the Fijiian Rugby Officials during their stay in the area as part of our ongoing commitment to developing and encouraging participation in sports at all levels of the local community.

Over the years Nanuya has also enjoyed being the go to resort for Rugby players and coaches SO it doesn’t get any better than hosting the National Coach of Fiji’s Rugby Sevens and his wife. Nanuya Island Resort was proud to do just that during a recent visit to the Yasawa’s for an earlier local Tournament. Gareth Baber and his wife, Danielle, spent a morning with staff and management, enjoyed a snack and hot coffee while photos were taken and the topic of the day – rugby, was discussed at length.

Gareth is well into his 4 year contract as Head Coach for Fiji’s National side and his and the team’s efforts and successes will be viewed with interest from all the friendly team at Nanuya Island Resort.

We look forward to Gareth and Danielle enjoying some more down time here at Nanuya Island Resort once his current campaign is over.
